Hold On

Earlier, I listened to an electronic dance music (EDM) DJ set from Sara Collado that featured the track “Hold On (BAM’s Full Disclosure Mix)” by BAM and which is presumably a remix of gospel singer Le’Andria Johnson’s song “Hold On”. I was previously unfamiliar with these artists and tracks.

Looking further into Johnson’s career, I discovered one source that reports she apparently once had “a drunken outburst at a local bar” and that of the event the vocalist stated, “This has been a daily walk for me for some time now, and I’m yet still growing,” in regard to “alcoholism.”

After discovering this report, I had more respect for the soulful track introduced to me through Collado’s set. After all, my practice of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is performed with recognition of the inherent fallibility of humans. Each and every one of us is imperfect.

Therefore, a track in which an artist encourages people to “hold on” has more significance to me coming from a person who acknowledges her own fallibility. Personally, the same can’t be said for those entertainers who present a plastic image with which I can’t relate.

The house music track “Hold On (BAM’s Full Disclosure Mix)” inspires me as I—an exceptionally flawed individual—attempt to help others improve their level of functioning and quality of life. Sometimes my efforts are well-received, sometimes not so much.

Nonetheless, I encourage people to “hold on” to their interests and goals so that together we may achieve success regarding their mental, emotional, and behavioral health desires and objectives. Factually speaking, I already achieve favorable outcomes regardless of whether or not clients do.

This is because I merely try to help people achieve success. As long as I’m offering help (i.e., trying), then I’ve attained my interests and goals in this regard. Thinking further about this matter, I don’t think I could’ve chosen a more purposeful and meaningful career.

Additionally, when I work with clients who accept personal responsibility and accountability for their role in the therapeutic alliance, then the people with whom I work often achieve success as well. Part of their effort requires that they “hold on” to their healthy desires and objectives.

Unlike Johnson who states on the song “Hold On (BAM’s Full Disclosure Mix)” that she will “guarantee you” an accomplished outcome, I invite people to start from a place of unconditional acceptance, and we can work from that point forward. After all, I don’t guarantee success.

Nevertheless, if you can achieve a good enough standard of tolerance and acceptance, then you’ve already triumphed more than perhaps you ever realized you could. If this approach to wellness appeals to you, then why not “hold on” to your interests and goals, and reach out to me?
